What is Servant Leadership?

Servant Leadership is a term we’ve been hearing a lot lately.

What does it mean?

Servant leadership is particularly relevant to speakers.

We have two jobs to do:

When we’re in front of an audience, we have to establish ourselves as leaders—as people who are worth following.

If the audience doesn’t buy the idea that we have value to share—if they don’t buy our leadership—they won’t pay attention.

They’ll look at their phones or they’ll open an email window on top of the webinar and get something done.

But leadership for the sake of asserting influence or authority over others is hollow.

We lead so we can serve.

Speaking is not about us wanting to be on the stage; it’s about making the audience better.

It’s about changing their hearts, minds, and fortunes.

Leaders are in the best position to serve…

And that’s servant leadership.
