Understatement

An understatement is a figure of speech where a situation or feeling is made to seem less important or less serious than it actually is.

Monty Python’s “Black Knight” scene from The Holy Grail is classic understatement!

Describing a hurricane as ‘a bit of wind and rain’ or calling a disastrous event ‘not the best day’ is understatement.
