Green Screen Basics

If you’re viewing this content in video format instead of reading it, you’re watching the magic of the green screen.

The concept is simple:

Film yourself speaking in front of a green screen. Some are fabric. Some are painted on the wall in “chromakey green,” and mine is actually a 9-foot wide roll of chromakey paper that I can lower down in front of my office bookcase.

Once the footage is recorded, it’s brought into video editing software which makes any green areas in the footage transparent.

A background image or video is inserted behind the green screen footage and there you have it.

Be careful not to wear green clothes or eyeshadow when you film as these areas will end up being transparent as well.
